In recent years, the fashion industry has experienced a much-needed shift toward sustainability, and swimwear is no exception. As more women become conscious of what they buy and how long it lasts, shoppers are asking better questions about fabric, production, durability and waste.

Why Sustainable Swimwear Matters

Swimwear is typically made from synthetic stretch fabrics, so sustainability is not as simple as attaching one label to a bikini. Material standards, durability, production quantities, packaging and how long a suit stays in use all matter.

At Midori, we prefer specific, verifiable choices over vague sustainability claims.

How Midori Approaches More Responsible Swimwear

  • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified fabric: current Midori swim fabric is tested to a recognized harmful-substance standard.
  • UPF 50+ sun protection: built into our swim fabric for long days outside.
  • Durable four-way stretch: selected for comfort, shape retention and repeat wear.
  • Small-batch production: helps us limit unnecessary overproduction and excess inventory.
  • Recycled shipping packaging: extends our effort beyond the swimsuit itself.

We do not currently use recycled or regenerated fibers such as recycled nylon or ECONYL® in our swim fabric. We would rather be transparent about where we are today while continuing to evaluate better options for future collections.

How to Make Your Swimwear Last Longer

  • Rinse after swimming to remove salt, chlorine and sunscreen.
  • Hand wash gently with mild soap.
  • Lay flat or hang in the shade to dry.
  • Avoid dryers and high heat.
  • Use a towel on rough pool edges or stone to help prevent snags and pilling.

Keeping a well-made swimsuit in rotation longer is one practical way to reduce replacement and waste.
